In the Denver region, everything is constantly changing! Every day brings new challenges, and we are so fortunate to have such an amazing staff that can all think on their feet and ALWAYS put our clients’ needs first. Over the past year I have been fortunate enough to work in several of Sample Supports’ Denver area programs, and have seen them really blossom into where they are today.
Before I started at Sample Supports, all I knew was that I wanted to work to make a difference in the lives of others. As an SLS and Behavior specialist, I can proudly say that my clients’ personal goals are always my main focus and I strive to make their lives a little bit richer every day. Sometimes we can take for granted how easy it is for us to do things like set a monthly budget or cook meals at home, but for our clients these are goals that we work towards for extended periods of time. Working as an SLS professional has really opened my eyes to how important it is for everyone to have a shot at navigating their world, but everyone goes at their own pace.
This week I helped one of my SLS clients count up her receipts from the previous month and compared it to her monthly budgeting worksheet we do every month. After adding up her monthly expenses, we were thrilled to see that she still had some money left over and had not gone over her budget, for the first time in almost six months! Another one of my clients told me that she was so proud of herself when we made a Mexican themed dinner and she chopped half an onion and cooked the beans on her own! She even asked her family if she could make dinner at home one night a week!
Nothing beats the feeling of knowing that what you do has an impact on the people around you. Over the last year I’ve spent working for Sample Supports I am proud to say that I have seen many of my clients reach one or more of their personal goals. Once that happens, we get to my favorite part of my job: helping them make NEW goals!
