My name is Alyse Cahill and I am a Day Program staff member for Sample Supports. As a staff member it is our job to assist and support our clients with incorporating them into the community. This is done by encouraging our clients to participate in various activities. At the beginning of each day, staff members work with our clients to set achievable goals that they can focus on, such as using coping skills appropriately and engaging in the activities. Overall, our goal is that our clients learn how to interact appropriately in the community.
For example, today my group spent the day visiting the High Plains Library in Greeley and completed a stress relieving activity. We also visited the Poudre River Canyon Trail where our clients engaged in walking a mile, yoga, and discussed as a group the importance of healthy eating and exercise. Other days may include a visit to Estes Park, hiking Horsetooth Falls, or engaging in one of our many clubs (Life Skills Club, Culture Club, and Sign Language Club). As the weather is getting nicer, we are looking to organize a Gardening Club. These clubs provide our clients gain a better understanding of responsibility, the use of healthy coping skills, diversity, and other ways to communicate.
