Who is a Family Caregiver? A "family caregiver" is person who provides any type of physical and/or emotional care for an individual with intellectual or physical disabilities. For some people, the increased need for caregiver services occurs gradually over time. For others, it can happen overnight. Caregivers may be full or part-time and provide a wide range of services, from simple help such as grocery shopping, to complex medical procedures.
