Featured Person of the Month: John

FEATURED PERSON OF THE MONTH:

​John M. describes himself as a busy guy who can fix just about anything. He grew up learning construction skills, like pouring concrete, with his dad and grandpa. John also takes pride in being able to drive a forklift. He has a friendly and supportive personality and enjoys demonstrating his independence by helping others. Whether he is helping his host home provider around the house or being a force of positivity around work—we can always count on John to get the job done, while keeping a smile on his face!

John began Supported Employment services with Sample Supports in December 2016. At that time, John worked in a group setting packaging beer at Great Divide Brewery. Currently, John works at Gallery 1874 doing building maintenance and cleaning. John is the ‘go-to’ guy when we need a handyman! He has become an expert in keeping cleaning out the gutters and drains around the building. John is always the first to initiate snow removal, even on cold days. John enjoys ‘getting his hands dirty’ and is always excited to learn new tasks.

John brings a supportive and encouraging presence to Gallery 1874. He motivates others by giving positive praise and is highly respected by his peers. He is a natural leader and uses those skills to create a team focused environment. Sample Supports truly appreciate the difference John makes through his work!

In his own words:
“What I like about my job is working with a lot of people. I enjoy coming to work and I like talking to my boss and saying, ‘how am I doing?’. I give respect to others, and one thing I like is the job coaches are very nice people. I have really enjoyed working at Gallery 1874 and doing new things I had never done before. Sometimes I am quiet but I will always tell you when things need to get done around here. I care about Sample Supports because it is a great place to work. I know what to do around here. Sample Supports helps people who need it – that is why I like them. My favorite staff members are Cailee and Molly. I like working with them because they tell me what I need to get done…and help me…and Molly just cracks me up.”
